Mare Serenitatis (plateau at the left corner of photo) was formed in the Nectarian era. A large basalt which cover the entire basin and flows in Somniorum Lacus. Most notable is Posidonius (95 Km.-at the bottom right), a crater located on the northeastern edge of Mare Serenitatis.Mare Serenitatis connects with Mare Tranquillitatis (the top-shelf photo) at south-east and Great Vaporum south-west.On Serenitatis is an abnormal gravity region on the Moon.
Mare Serenitatis is Serenity in Latin (or Sea of Peace).
Apollo 17 and Luna 21, landed near the eastern border of Mare Serenitatis.
