Mare Fecunditatis and crater Messier (video)

Messier (9x11 km), is an interesting small crater located on Mare Fecunditatis, a little left to the center of the basin. Despite the fact that it is small, it is easy to notice with a telescope of 8 inches (203 mm), because it is on a wide and smooth plateau. This crater is elongated from east to west, is like an eye, with a dark floor and with the same shape as its border.


But more interesting than Messier, is a satellite crater, Messier A (11x13 km), located to the left, at a distance of 21 km. From this, starting to east, are 2 impressive and spectacular rays, long, compared to the small size of the crater. It stretches over a length of about 150 km, to the western edge of Mare Fecunditatis, and were created by the ejection of material from the impact that formed the crater. To the west edge, Messier A has a lip, which is because of the asteroid that came from the East, and heavy materials remained at the crater rim. I suspect that both impacts Messier and Messier A have occurred simultaneously. Messier has other satellite craters around it, namely Messier B (6 km) to the northeast, D (8 km) south-west, and E, J and L.
