Been stacking of Moon and Jupiter occulttion.

On July 15, 2012, there was an occultation between the Moon and Jupiter. The images taken then with video camer but also with the DSLR camera can be seen in the articles A closer look of Moon and Jupiter conjunction Picture gallery, Moon Jupiter occultation videos by telescope 15 July 2012 in Romania.

These images from the same event, arrived on the blog just now, these being some processings in Registax program.

Occultation took place from 4:20 am and lasted about an hour until Jupiter went out on the opposite side of the Moon. My telescope was mounted on the balcony, ready for me to wake up and catch the event.

A closer look of Moon and Jupiter conjunction Picture gallery

Above are cropped pictures taken with Nikon D80 , and the full images are presented in the article: Moon and Jupiter July 15, 2012 Telescope pictures with Nikon D80 .


   Conjunction and occultation of 15 July 2012 took place the morning, before sunrise, at 4:20.
Here are presented captures of the videos posted in another article, except for the first photos above, which are made ​​with DSLR Nikon D80.
 Have passed behind the lunar disk in their order, first satellites (moons) Europe, and Io, planet Jupiter, then followed by Ganymede and Callisto.

I've captured the clearest images from the video, with the lowest atmospheric turbulence. In the photos above we see the momentum of the Moon interposed over the planet.

 Although it seems that Jupiter comes to the Moon, the Moon is actually guilty. Jupiter is too far to see a change in the revolution movement, compared to the Moon that is so close to us. In addition, it takes 11.86 years for Jupiter to revolve around the Sun, while for the Moon it takes 27.3 days around the Earth.

Moon Jupiter occultation videos by telescope 15 July 2012 in Romania

On the lunar occultation of Jupiter, in Baia Mare, Romania, I've been lucky, because soon after Jupiter disappeared on the farside, the clouds covered the whole sky.

The clips below are different. The first one, the Moon is filmed farther, and Jupiter, accompanied by its satellites, are at greater angle by the Moon, compared with the second video where is closer to the occultation, and I've waited for the planet with its satellites to hide behind Moon. Near the time of the occultation, in the second video, images have became darker because of clouds covering almost everything, but for a short time, because the event was filmed successfully, and my mission is accomplished.

Exposures of videos that I shot, was at 'auto' mode (when the satellites 'enters' behind the Moon), and 'manual' (when the planet Jupiter 'enters' behind the Moon).
  As I said in the previous article that I posted, with Nikon D80 photos, I put on Youtube the footages, and next I will post another article with processed images from the videos.
 The last planetary occultation occurred on December 1, 2008, when the Moon occulted Venus, and the next one, between Moon and Saturn, will take place only in 2024.

Moon and Jupiter July 15, 2012 Telescope pictures with Nikon D80

On July 15, 2012  in the morning, there was an occultation. The Moon occulted Jupiter at 04:30. I took some photos through the 8" telescope, and Nikon D80 DSLR, coupled with the ring T. The photos are close to the occultation of the two bodies.

 The  most important moment was shot in video, which will be posted in the next article today. There were some moderate clouds at the time. After the occultation, the sky was covered much more by clouds.

Moon occulted by HIP 9948 01/30/2012 (photo and video)


On January 30, 2012, I caught in a video an occultation between HIP 9948 and the Moon. Star disappeared after the dark side of the Moon at 19:51:57. It was very cold outside. The temperature was -15 ° C.

HIP 9948 is 1874.46 years in light away from us, and is located in the constellation Aries.

An occultion is an event that occurs when an object is hidden by another object that passes between it and the observer. The word is used in astronomy. It can also refer to any situation where an object in the foreground, is blocking the view (masks) an object in the background.

Occultation term is most often used when the Moon passes in front of a star during its orbital motion around Earth. Events that occur on dark Moon edge are of particular interest for astronomical observers, because the lack of glare of the Moon allows these occultations to be more easily observed and timed.
