Solar lunar planetary eclipses. Astronomy lecture.

An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when an astronomical object is temporarily covered by shadow, or when passing through the shadow of another celestial body, or with another body passing between it and the viewer.

The term eclipse is most often used to describe: -a solar eclipse when the Moon shadow crosses the Earth's surface
-a lunar eclipse, when the Moon enters Earth's shadow.

It can also refer to: -a planet moving in the shadow of one of its satellites,
-a moon passing through the shadow of a planet,
-a moon passing through the shadow of another satellite (moon),
-a binary star system can cause an eclipse, when the two stars intersects, intersection seen from the observer position.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun, as seen from Earth. The type of solar eclipse event depends on the distance between the Moon and Earth during the event. A total solar eclipse occurs when Earth crosses the moon shadow. If the shadow does not reach Earth, the Sun is partially occulted, resulting in an annular eclipse. Partial solar eclipses occur when the viewer is inside the penumbra.

lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through Earth's shadow. Since this only happens when the Moon is on the far side of Earth from the Sun, eclipses occur only when it is full moon. Unlike a solar eclipse, an eclipse of the Moon can be seen by almost an entire hemisphere. A Moon eclipse also lasts longer, taking several hours to complete.

These are video captures of the lunar eclipse.I minimized the exposure of the video to avoid super exposed images. These are the phases in which Earth's shadow began to leave the Moon.

Lunar eclipse photos from 15 june 2011

These are the photos taken from last night with DSLR Nikon D80 and my Newtonian 8 " telescope .It was an spectacular eclipse.Until 10:40 p.m. the Moon was in the clouds that were moving very slow.My hope to see the Moon was lost. Then ,it came out I had no patience. The Moon rose above the night clouds and I started to take pictures with my DSLR Nikon D80, and to film it with Sony HD CX105 camcorder, I've switched the cameras from time to time, to catch as many moments I can.I stayed there until nothing was left but a small shadow in the corner of the Moon .Video captures of Luna can be seen in the link.
These are the photos from the eclipse.

Total eclipse of the Moon on June 15 2011

A total eclipse will take place on June 15, 2011. This is the first of two Moon total eclipses this year. The second will be taken place on december 10, 2011.Last lunar eclipse when Moon passed in front of the Earth's center (the center of the Earth's shadow), was on July 16, 2000, and the next total eclipse of the Moon after this year will be on July 27, 2018.
The eclipse on 15 June 2011 will be fully visible over Africa and Central Asia and increasing visible over South America, West Africa, East Asia and Europe. In West Asia, Australia and the Philippines, the eclipse of the Moon will be visible just before sunrise.
I hope that in Baia Mare, Romania will be clear skies because it will be my first Lunar Eclipse filmed and photographed.

What is the eclipse of the Moon: A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth, so Earth blocks sunlight that should reach the Moon. This can happen only when the Sun, Earth and Moon are exactly aligned , with the Earth in the middle (between the Sun and Moon). Therefore, when a Lunar Eclipse occur,it will always be Full Moon. The type and duration of an eclipse depends on the location in relation to the nodes of the Moon's orbit.

To see photos I made on the lunar eclipse, see Lunar eclipse photos from 15 june 2011 ,Video-Lunar eclipse 15 june 2011 , or Lunar eclipse 15 june 2011-Video captures .
