Casiopeia constellation Nikon D80 DSLR pictures. Cassiopeia is a constellation of the northern sky, and was named after Queen Cassiopeia in Greek mythology, who was an unsurpassed beauty. Cassiopeia was one of the 48 constellations listed by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy who lived in the second century, and remains one of the 88 modern constellations of today. It is easily recognizable because of the distinctive shape of "W", consisting of five bright stars. It borders on south, Andromeda, Perseus on south-east and on north is Cepheus. It opposites the Big Dipper, and is most clearly seen in early November in the northern hemisphere.
