Two small craters on the Moon: Helicon and Verrier.

The above images are video captures. This area is dominated by Mare Imbrium, and in image center are two small craters, called Helicon (25 km) and Le Verrier (20 km).
Although Helicon's bigger, it has a smaller depth of only 500 meters compared to Le Verrier, who has a depth of 2.1 km.

The name of Le Verrier, comes from Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier (March 11th 1811-23 september 1877) He was a French mathematician specialized in celestial mechanics and is best known for his role in the discovery of Neptune.
Name of Helicon is of a mountain on Earth, located in Greece.

Plato and Sinus Iridium Registax Images

Registax image 265 frames to 90%

The north of the Moon has many features to discuss. I talked about one of the regions in the article East of Sinus Iridium Bay Registax pictures , in which we described the characteristics of the eastern Sinus Iridium.

In these pictures we see more features such as a part of the Mate Frigoris (top in photos), a part of Mare Imbrium (bottom in photos), on which is situated two small distinct craters called Helicon and Le Verrier, and also observe Plato crater, upper right in photo.

Sinus Iridium is a gulf that has no resemblance on the entire surface of the Moon. Because the Moon visible from Earth is full of basins (mare), the craters have special features, not like the unseen Moon, where there are not so many basins but with highlands, mountains, deep craters full of unaffected by lava as we see on visible Moon from Earth. I would not wish that one day, the Moon to appear on our sky with the unseen part.

Craters Helicon and Le Verrier. Telescope Images

Le Verrier (20 km) and Helicon (25 km) craters. 24 frames at 100% quality

Le Verrier (20 km) and Helicon (25 km) craters. 31frames at 100% quality

Le Verrier (20 km) and Helicon (25 km) are two craters located on the Mare Imbrium smooth plateau, south-east of Sinus Iridium. The two form a nice duo in an area devoid of other notable craters.

Helicon, is bigger in size as Le Verrier, but both have the inner edge terraced, and despite its small size, both have even a few mountain peaks on their floor. On the southwest rim of Helicon is a small crater called probably Helicon A.

The two images above are from a video processed in Registax program in which were used few frames, but the best of them. The Sun shines from the west if you are on the Moon. Note shades of colors on Mare Imbrium.
