Janssen giant crater on the Moon through telescope. Registax Images.

Janssen (190 km), is a wonderful huge crater, which we discussed in many articles such as Beautiful large crater Janssen filmed with amateur astronomical telescope, where I posted the video of these images, and Live Images Of The Moon In Stunning Detail Vlacq and Janssen craters.

Too bad this crater dont have a sharp edge like that of Clavius ​​(225 km), because it would have been much seen and known by everyone. Notice the beautiful features on the floor of this crater like the "ditch" that starts from the smaller crater Fabricius (78 km), towards the center of the floor
of Janssen. This is called Rima Janssen.

The floor is filled with many
worn peaks, and with many satellite craters, larger and smaller.

In the center-top of the image, to southeast are two twin craters, nicely rounded, called Steinheil and Watt. These, although in images appear to be separated from each other, are in fact stacked one over the other: Steinheil (67 km), nearest, over Watt (66 km), more distant, but this is not observed in these images due to libration and phase of the Moon in that evening. Here, both craters have more than half the floor covered in shadow.

Astronomic Video-lunar craters through telescope Watt Steinheil Pontecoulant

In the video below that has a pretty good quality, are lunar craters from south-east to Moon's terminal.The largest of them are: large crater Janssen, the overlapping craters Watt and Steinheil, Biela and the large crater Pontecoulant that is located at the terminal.

Steinheil and Watt (pictures with Moon craters through telescope)

Steinheil (67 km), and Watt (66 km) are observed in the images above and below, craters that are close together and have the same diameter, with a difference by only 1 km.
It is not difficult to understand, that Steinheil is slightly newer than Watt, as he "rides" it on the second one to the northern boundary (the image is reversed).
Both craters have no peaks in the center, only a few small craters on their floor barely visible.

Steinheil crater name is given from Carl August von Steinheil (October 12, 1801 - September 14, 1870) which was a german physicist, inventor, engineer and astronomer.
The name of Watt crater comes from James Watt (January 19, 1736 - August 25, 1819), a Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer.
